The 2014 LEAGUE Scholarship Foundation
September 1, 2014
The LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION
Established in 2013 by Sean Dumlao, Tony Kattengell, and The LEAGUE, this honor awards college scholarships to outstanding Sport Martial Art athletes who perform above and beyond the martial arts, the community, and in their educational pursuits.
The “LEAGUE Foundation Scholarship” will be working alongside The LEAGUE, which itself was established in 2004 and led by Promoter pioneers Tony Kattengell & Sean Dumlao. The LEAGUE has been a LEADER in their efforts facilitating FREE Tournaments, producing “A Way of Life” (a Competitor Training Video Documentary), having a continued working relationship with professional NBA sports organizations, and taking pride in keeping a “Competitor’s first” premise in their daily operations.
The Scholarship Program aims to provide Scholars with more than just academic opportunities, but also aims to foster both the strong commitment of service and dedication to future leadership that the LEAGUE helps embody.
The Program also provides Scholar Athletes with the financial resources to attend college/junior college. Upon acceptance, Scholar Athletes are each awarded a Scholarship that may be used at the college or university of their choice.
The mission of the FOUNDATION is to accelerate the progress of Sport Martial Art scholar athletes using their success in the Martial Arts, Community, and Academia to springboard them to attend a College and earn a degree of their choice.
The aim is also to elevate these honored individuals into leadership positions, while maintaining a strong dedication to Public Service and the Martial Arts.
The Foundation seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, excel in Sport Martial Arts, show exceptional leadership potential, and make an impact on their communities through service to others.
Each year, one to three athletes are designated Scholars and receive a one-time to be determined Scholarship Award. The recipients may use the merit- based scholarships to attend the four-year college or university of their choice. Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline.
Finalists may be asked to be interviewed by members of a Foundation Selection Committee and may be expected to participate in several Selection Weekend activities. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their applications, interviews, regular season performances, and participation in Selection Weekend activities.
Foundation scholarships may be used to cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, room and board, computers, health insurance, study abroad and other college-related expenses.
